The Meaning And Healing Properties Of Agate

What is agate?

Agate is a very old (takes 50 million years to form) and widespread rock with bands of color on it. These color bands may be different shades of one color (such as blue lace agate, which has light and dark blue colors) or completely different colors on the same rock (such as iridescent agate, which shows all the colors of the rainbow under the right lighting).

Another important feature of agate is translucency - this means that light can pass right through the agate (especially near the edges).

Although some agates do not have bands and are classified as "agates", they are not considered true agates.

Healing Properties Of Agate

Known as a stabilizer, Agate is the stone to seek support when you need stability and grounding in your life. In addition to its supportive energy, agate has long been revered for its incredible beauty. Agate has a fantastic quality, consisting of deposits with signature bands layered in perfect circular symmetry around its circumference. The combination of igneous rocks and silica deposits found in groundwater, the superb banding gives this semi-precious stone its signature appearance.

The properties of agate work by connecting you to the soft vibrations of the earth, making it a gentle stone with light-diffused energy. With its soft vibrations and steady rhythm, agate can bring you a sense of calm and support when you feel distracted or overwhelmed by modern life.
